Why Do We Fall?

One of my favorite movies has a perfect quote captured here:

In Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne just fell down a boarded up well. His father retrieves him and gives him some good advice:

Why do we fall Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up. - Thomas Wayne, Batman Begins

It's a valuable line. Life is not comfortable, easy, or fair. It will toss difficult things our way. We will fall down (and the floor will meet us, based on this week's Wacky Wednesday). When this happens, you can either lay on the floor and wallow, or you can pick yourself up and (hopefully) learn from it.

A great example of this is Darren LaCroix's  World Championship Speech Contest entry: Ouch.

Do you stay down to long? Do you worry that others will see? Do you worry what others will think?

This is even more important when you are in a leadership position. After you hit the floor, your entire team will be looking at you, waiting to see if you will stand-up and be a leader, or crumble to pieces on the floor. Don't wallow. Don't crumble. Get up off the floor, learn from how you hit the floor, and then lead on. Perhaps on Monday I will share a moment where I fell, and perhaps even a couple of lessons from it.

But first, have you ever fallen? Have you ever stayed down too long? How did you pick yourself up? Did you ever take that next step.
